UnF***ing believable

This will make you sick.

Wal-mart sues brain damaged employee

I know this happened a while ago, but it is new news to me. I found an article on it as late as Nov. 2007.

I don't know when CNN shot this video - here is the CNN article.

Wow

A Dr. from our community.
I find it amazing that Dr. Fogarty took such a strong stand on this, that is the type of conviction I rarely see anymore...
I salute him in respect to his responses and article.
Here are some interesting links about what I'm talking about.
I agree with him by the way.

A word on Anitbiotics

Last week when I was sick, I had a few different things go on.
The first was the nasty sinus problems - dry and burning, yet running, clear mucus that felt like an infection. After the 4th day of this I almost gave in and went to the Dr., but fortunately I was able to convince myself that this was the same VIRUS that my wife and daughter had, which was confirmed by my daughters pediatrician. I still almost went in, knowing that the possibility of me getting antibiotics would be close to 100% even if the Dr. thought it was a virus.
I have had good results from antibiotics in the past, but I only use any type of medicine if I absolutely need (aka near death) - and as a result I usually get better very quickly when I do use something - 90% of the time - Also, I very rarely get sick.
By the 5th day, my sinus problems were virtually gone and I was very glad that I didn't go in for antibiotics for 2 reasons which I will detail.
I ended up getting the flu the next day and subsequently my digestive system was in "sudden turmoil".
So, what is my point here? I have a few.
1st - most of the virus type colds that I deal with usually resolve within 7 to 10 days or so, especially when using the proper herbal supplements. So when I started getting better the next day, I would have attributed that to the antibiotics.
2nd - Antibiotics do not work on viruses.
3rd - The types of antibiotics generally generally used, such a Zithromax ("Z pak") is a broad spectrum antibiotic, which means it is non-selective, which means it kills many types of bacteria including some of the good kind needed in our intestines.
4th - I would have inevitably and incorrectly blamed my sudden turmoil or at least part of the severity on the antibiotic.

Ok, I have been trying to write this now for a couple hours having to stop for up to an hour at a time between writing so I have lost my take away for this post.

Basically, I think I was going to say that I'm glad I didn't get an antibiotic for 2 main reasons.
1 I would have given it undue credit for the good, and the other is that I would have given it undue credit for the bad.

Sick, bad pears, and bad soup

Well, I just got over being sick as hell.
For the past week I had some nasty sinus problems and as soon as they were over I got the flu.
This was the worst case of the flu I have ever had and many people around town apparently have it.
Anyway, until 5 minutes ago I had only consumed 4 silces of pears and a bunch of water and gatorade in the past 30+ hours.
This morning I was going to have another can of pears, took a spoon full of the juice and as I was swallowing noticed this nasty black hair floating in the juice - nobody in my family has black hair and the pears weren't exposed to open air for more than seconds so I know this came from the factory - disgusting! I will post the brand on here later when I find out what it is.
As far as the bad soup, Campbell's select chicken with egg noodles. Here is my impression of this soup - Lowest quality vegetables they could find, chunks of chicken (chicken tumors), good broth, better than average good noodles.
Seriously, I must have just gotten a bad batch I hope, because this is supposed to be some kind of gourmet shit. The carrots look like they have fungus growing on them and the chicken looks like what I would imagine a tumor to look like. I did eat a piece of the chicken (that didn't look like a tumor) and it was as disgusting as expected.
Thats all thats new here. At least I feel good.

If I had $7500

If I had $7500 to burn today, this bike (well not this specific bike), but this make of bike would be sitting in my garage until it is nice enough to be riding full time.

The BMW 650 GS, silver with black - what a beauty. I will own one of these someday.

and now... for the rest of the story

After dinner Andrea and I had desert at Caspers East 40, they have great creme brulee (sp?) and New Castle beer. I knew there was something more, but I didn't know what. I thought we were going to do something together, probably hotel like since she had me bring my contact case.
So, before we left the parking lot of Caspers she forced me to be blind folded, it was at that point I knew she was taking me to a "surprise B-day party".
We ended up driving for about 20 minutes with all kinds of turns and sudden stops which about made me sick. Turns out the surprise party was at my parents - one of the last places I would have expected so it truly was a surprise.
There were quite a few friends there and my parents and hers. It was a great time.
Also, turns out Ian didn't have to head back right away and we got to party one more night.
So, I'm 30 some days old now and had a great party.
I wish the rest of you could have been there, but I completely understand.
Also, Andrea tried to raid my email and phone to get numbers and address but unfortunately she wasn't able to get them all. There were even some people from town who didn't get invited that I wish could have been there - but, I guess that is how it goes with surprise parties.
Take care and have a great day.

#30! Part 1 of 2

I turned 30 yoa yesterday.
I don't feel any different than 29,28 or 26.
It was a great weekend and full of surprises. Andrea started off the weekend by having me meet her at the Peacock, she told me that she wanted to hang out with me the night before my birthday since it was my birthday weekend. She was out on a bachelorette party so I couldn't figure out why she wanted me to join - she insisted that I come though, even though I wasn't excited about crashing their gathering. This got me thinking that she had put together a surprise birthday party. When I got there it was just the girls and after a half hour when my sister and brother-in-law showed up as we had planned I thought that was it for sure, Andrea really did just want to hang out with me for my weekend.
Then about an hour later out of nowhere my buddy and old roomy Ian shows up from Minneapolis. This was a great surprise as I haven't seen him since September.
Ian had told me he was only going to be able to stay until Saturday afternoon and then he had to go back, I didn't believe him at first, but I thought it was possible and didn't say anything more about it. We went out to the Tumble Weed bar and shot some pool and had a few beers, and the we went to my friend Shane's for a while and had few more. It was a good night.
On Saturday, we went out to my sister and brother-in-laws place which is about 20 miles NW of town and shot pistol and rifle (yes, very redneck of us I know). It was a lot colder than we anticipated as the wind had picked up but that didn't stop us. I had about 10 half drank bottles of water that had frozen in my car, so I filled them up to the top and set them out to be shot. Very amusing, and we video taped some of the explosions. No animals were hurt. Only bottles, steel targets desigend to be shot, and old scrap wood. I will post the videos as soon as I get them from my brother-in-law.
Well, the afternoon passed and Andrea and I had plans to go to a unique restaurant here in town the Pirogue grill and the time also came for Ian to leave. I was really sad to see him have to go, I don't know why it was so hard for me to see a good friend go this time, but it was.
As for the Pirogue, I will rate it a weak 9/10.
The atmosphere was really neat, something I would not expect to see in Bismarck. The service was good, but there was a few times where I felt like our main server and one other girl server or water filler (not sure what exactly she was) gave some looks to each other and just reactions I noticed when they passed by us that made me feel like they thought we really didn't belong there or something to that effect. Which they couldn't have been more right, I did think the prices were obnoxious - but we were dressed nice and we weren't making any requests let alone unusual ones. So, I didn't understand that.
Anyway, I will go on.
They are definitely on the high end of bismarck dining at 6 to 12 for the appetizers, 6 to 12 (I think they went to 12) for the salad if you decided to get one, and then 19 to 30 for the main course. I didn't look at the wine list but I'm sure it started at 25 and went up.
We started by oredering the eggplant, portebella mushroom, tomatoe, mozzerella appetizer served with a tomatoe balsamic sauce. It looked really small, but turned out to be just enough to satisfy us concerning quantity and the quality was fantastic. If you decide to try and make this soon, as I am, all of the aforementioned was layered, except for the sauce which was served on the side.
As for the sauce I belive it was a puree of roasted redpepper, sun dried tomato, olive oil and balsamic vinegar with the consistency of tomatoe paste. (I don't know that for sure though, I will be experimenting with that combo and let you know).
We also got a bottle of wine, which was a Pinot Noir. Andrea really likes Pinot Noir and it was a bit sweet for a Noir, but still had the expected astringing property - I prefer a sweet or semi-sweet red, but it was good.
As for the main course Andrea had pork tenderloin which was filled with an apple and pecan filling (or something close to this I can't exactly remember), on the side was butternut potatoe squash, and a small mix of steamed carrot and squash. It was pretty good, it was one of the nightly specials and I think it was 19.
I had something called the Kurobuta Pork. I'm not sure, but I think Kurobuta is Japanese for "Over Rated". I asked the server to tell me about the Kurobuta and what made it so good - as it was the most expensive thing listed on the menu. She started off by telling me that it is the Kobe of pork. Kobe is another Japanese name which is associated with the highest quality beef. I have been told this is very good. Anyway, I said what exactly is that then - she went on to tell me that the pig is not raised in a pen, they are fed high quality organic feed, beer and stuff...
Hmm, I don't know if it was one or the combination of the facts that I had a gift certificate which was going to pay for the majority of this meal, it was my birthday, the fact that Andrea and I rarely ever go out for dinner, or that I had the opportunity to eat a pig that was fed beer and stuff (I assume by stuff she probably meant organic potatoe chips and cheetos or something to that affect). So I orderd the Kurobuta pork, which was recommended by the chef to be served medium rare or medium. I went with medium, as eating semi-cooked pork is a bad idea no matter what the social class of the animal before it is processed.
It was a very succulent (yes, I did just use that word - first time ever) piece of meat about an inch thick with 1 rib still attached. Juicy grilled and it was tasty and my thoughts were that I had not been ripped off (as I fully expected), but this is what I would expect at the least for a 30 meal, accompanied with the same sides as Andrea.
I did taste Andreas pork tenderloin and not to my surprise it was every bit as good as the Kurobuta.
That being said, take my word for it you are not missing anything if you never try Kurobuta Pork.
That was not the end of the night, I will give a part 2 sometime within the next few days... as this is getting long.
Thanks for my Birthday dinner Ben and Hal!!

Finally working out again

I have been trying to get back into working out. I just haven't been able to really get back into it for quite a long time, probably over a year and a half.
Anyway,
I have always been really impressed with Andy's drive when it comes to physical activity and after reading about his Birkebeiner race, I realized it is time to get to it. No more excuses, get my ass in the gym and do what I have been wanting to do for a long time. Get in awesome physical shape.
So, 2 weeks ago I started watching my diet. Making sure I'm eating at regular intervals throughout the day, focusing on increasing my protein intake and water consumption.
I have also started doing plenty of research on what I should be doing and I found this great workout routine (let me tell you this kicks my ass) from a website that Ian told me about - the guys that write on here are FREAKS! (which is a compliment in the bodybuilding world I have determined) and they are very intelligent. I don't plan on getting even close to their size, but they know what they are talking about.
So, I started this past Monday, 3 days lifting M W F routine 1. I also started doing Tai Ji / Qi Gong and self defense T and TH.
So, that is what is new on my front.
I had to write it out / lay it out and I will try to make my posts less painful from now on.
I will give occasional updates on my progress.
Have a great Day!

I'm back

Ok,
Back at it.
I was inspired by Pmans blog to start another. I really enjoyed reading about his adventures and life out west. Of course I like the all of the other blogs as well, its just that Pmans was the catalyst for another attempt at blogging.
I'm going to keep it more simple this time.
Also, the last blog I had given out my link to lots of people that I felt I shouldn't have given it to - yes I know people can find this again, and that is fine. I'm only sending the link out to a much smaller group this time.

Well, of course I will probably use this as a means of self realization and when I put something out I do it with the intent of receiving your input on the matter - to help me become a better more educated person.

Thanks.
